When switching carriers, it is not likely that the same phone will be able to be used. Carriers have cell phones programmed for use within a certain network. Therefore, phones tend to not be transferrable from carrier to carrier.
It is possible, however, to keep the same phone number. Many carriers offer this option to help make the transition between carriers more simple for customers. The inconvenience involved in getting a new phone number can be completely avoided.
