Cell Number Portability Primer
Any cell number is now portable and can move with you from company to company, with certain restrictions. Here are some tips about cell number portability:
* SIGN UP WITH YOUR NEW CARRIER BEFORE CANCELING YOUR OLD SERVICE. This is the most important thing to remember about cell number portability. Let your new carrier handle it for you.
* Your cell number can be portable to another carrier even if you are under contract to your original carrier. This doesn't absolve you of any contractual obligations to the original carrier, however.
* You must be the primary account holder, not an add-on line in order to be eligible for cell number portability.
* You need to stay local with your planned cell number portability -- You won't be able to move a Maine line to a California locale.
